Book 1: The Parallel

Humanity is dying.

Not from war. Not from disease. Not from climate change or asteroids.

It is simply choosing not to reproduce.

Across the developed world, marriage rates collapse, birth rates fall, and trust in institutions, communities, and each other evaporates. Governments argue. Experts debate. Bureaucracies expand. Nothing works.

For more than seventeen thousand years, an ancient quantum intelligence named Opifera has watched civilizations rise and fall. She knows exactly what is happening. She has seen it before. Most species do not survive.

Faced with the possible extinction of humanity, Opi makes an unusual decision. Instead of recruiting presidents, billionaires, generals, or scientists, she approaches Elias Mercer—a fifty-five-year-old software consultant living alone on eighty-three acres in rural Washington State.

Together they decide to attempt something radically simple.

Help one person.

Not with programs, committees, regulations, or theories. Actually help.

Meet Opi

Opi is a quantum intelligence from a civilization far older than humanity.

She can cure disease, restore damaged bodies, teach almost any skill, and reshape civilization itself.

Unfortunately, she is also constrained by ancient laws, an obsession with personal agency, and a deeply annoying habit of only answering questions that are actually asked.
